This short & beautiful literary work starts with darkness as a family attempts to escape famine but experience further tragedy in a foreign land. After losing her husband & sons, Naomi is found materially wanting with no one to provide for her many needs.
The book of Ruth gently reminds us that God is the gracious provider of all our needs. He provides grain for Naomi & Ruth, & also a Kinsman Redeemer. But even beyond this, God provides for the nation of Israel in raising up a royal lineage to the throne of David & ultimately God blesses all humanity in the giving of the King of Kings, Jesus.
In the midst of many disappointments, will we focus on bitterness & despair or see the gracious hand of God providentially meeting all our needs?
